BMW has priced the updated version of its polarising electric SUV for Australia, though for now it’s only releasing details for the base model.

The refreshed BMW iX is due here by the middle of 2025, priced from $142,900 before on-roads for the new base xDrive45 M Sport.

That’s $6000 more than the outgoing xDrive40 Sport, but there’s more standard kit including a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof and a heated steering wheel.

For the first time in Australia, a base iX can also be optionally specified with air suspension and BMW’s Integral Active Steering which the company says improves low-speed manoeuvrability and high-speed stability.

While BMW says it’ll only launch one iX variant at first, but says it’ll announce details of other iX variants “at a later date”. BMW has already detailed new xDrive60 and M70 xDrive variants for markets like Europe.

The new base model pumps out 60kW and 30Nm more than the old one, slashing the 0-100km/h time by a second to 5.1 seconds.

Its larger 94.8kWh battery (up from 77kWh) can be charged at up to 175kW using DC power, up from 150kW.

BMW quotes WLTP range of up to 602km for the xDrive45, while the xDrive40 it replaces had 425km of range.

The updated iX was revealed in January, with cosmetic changes including a new LED daytime running light signature, a revised grille and lower air intakes, and new side air curtains.

An M Sport appearance package is new, and is fitted as standard locally. Also standard in Australia is Iconic Glow perimeter lighting for the grille.

Inside, the iX runs the latest iDrive 8.5 infotainment operating system, while the M Sport package brings a new steering wheel and more heavily bolstered front seats.

Just one powertrain has been confirmed thus far for the updated iX in Australia.

Figures marked with an * are based on “best case” WLTP estimates, with ADR 81/02 figures to be confirmed closer to launch.

BMW claims it’ll take 34 minutes to fast-charge an iX from 10 to 80 per cent.

Servicing and Warranty

BMW Australia hasn’t announced any updated service pricing. The outgoing iX is available with a six-year, unlimited-kilometre Service Inclusive Basic package priced at $3475.

The company backs its vehicles with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty plus an eight-year, 160,000km battery warranty.

Safety

The BMW iX has a five-star safety rating from ANCAP, based on testing conducted in 2021.

Frozen Pure Grey metallic and Space Silver metallic will be available from the fourth quarter of 2025.

The ‘Suite’ interior is available with either Amido (orange) or Castanea (black) upholstery.
